Oma Jean (Rodgers) Nunn Brown was born on January 28, 1933, in Bryceland, Louisiana. She peacefully went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
A devoted Christian, Oma lived her life grounded in faith, kindness, and service. Her love for God guided every aspect of her life and was reflected in the way she cared for others, taught with purpose, and served her community faithfully.
Oma was actively involved in her community, was a member of Cosmopolites Business and Professional Women’s Club for over 55 years, where she held various positions and modeled for years until she had declining health. She also faithfully served her church, including teaching Sunday School and serving on the Board of Trustees.
Oma dedicated 37 years of her life to education as a teacher, touching countless lives through her patience, wisdom, and encouragement. She believed deeply in the value of learning and left a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Prairie View A&M and her master's degree from St. Francis University, achievements that reflected her lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.
Family was the heart of Oma’s life. She was a loving wife, mother, a proud grandmother, and a cherished great-grandmother who found immense joy in time spent with her family. Her home was a place of warmth, guidance, and unconditional love.
She was married to Willie B. Nunn for 31 years, with whom she raised five children, and later married Carl Brown with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children, Deborah D. Nunn-Persley of Indiana, Bobby T. Nunn (Christy) of Texas, Kenneth R. Nunn (Carrie) of Texas, Karen Nunn of Tennessee, and Kevin Nunn of Indiana; 11 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, and other relatives including the Grimes and Autry families of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mildred Rodgers, spouses Willie B. Nunn and Carl Brown, and her siblings Ralph Rodgers, LeVerne Rodgers, Doris Gist, and Conrad Rodgers.
