Ruby Adkins, also known as “Rumay” was born November 10, 1939 in Nashville, TN. She was born to the late Joe Samuel and Eula Pearl Sheffield Williams. Ruby was educated at Cedar Grove Elementary, graduating Holloway High School class of 1959. She attended nursing school, later working full-time as a CNT at Meharry, Trevecca and Lakeshore until she later retired. She was baptized at age 12 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church and later joined Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church.

Ruby enjoyed life along with friends and family she shared it with. Ruby was a loving and caring person. She would help anyone, “It’s from my heart” she would say. She had a pursuit of happiness for everybody including family and people she cared about. Ruby loved the Lord. She often quoted the bible and sung old hymns. Her favorite song was “Never Alone.” She worshiped God and also encouraged others to do the same. Ruby was always a busy body and she enjoyed working, sewing and word puzzles. She also loved to eat and enjoy being close to family, especially her children and grandchildren. Ruby Adkins was preceded in death by her children, Manuel Adkins III and Kina Adkins; siblings, Margret Williams, Betty Jean Burdette, Joe Leonard Williams and Larry Williams; nephews, Lamont Williams and Robert Britton; many aunts; and other close friends and family.

She leaves to cherish her memory children, Terry Ward (Carmeka Worthington) and Karen Hockett; grandchildren, devoted granddaughter Timmerrah Bradley, Sheteka (Carlos) Young, Sykiah Scales (Travis), Lemanuel Hockett, Kianthony Hockett, Brittany Harris, Patrick Hockett, Samuel Thompson and Quantez Robertson; great-grandchildren, Lemanual Jr., Camri, Destiny and Aubrey, Kemanuel, Caniyah, Takiah, Travis III, Devariana and Dereon; siblings, Brenda Wade, Patricia Thompson, Thomas (Mai Etta) Williams, James Alfred Williams; and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; devoted cousin Erma Bracey. Devoted friends and loved ones, The Bradley and Anderson family, Henry Evans, Renata Chrisman, Betty Cole, Robert Vaughn, Marie Tyson, Randy (Jessie) Pinkerson, Maggie Dangerfield, Barbara Kelly, Carlitta Mitchell and family; good friend Frances; god-sisters Ethel Moore and Evelyn Perkins; and others that are not listed.
