Gloria Jean Fletcher Lane transitioned peacefully the morning of Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at the age of 71.

Gloria was born June 21, 1947 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to the late William C. Fletcher, Sr. and Sue J. Fletcher. She was one of 10 children, five of which proceeded her in death; William (BT), Elbert, Evelyn, Mildred Sue and Wilma Gail.

Gloria Jean lived a lavished, well-traveled life. She was a woman of the world, she loved to get dressed up, have a cocktail, eat good food and have a good time. She loved to dance and often told stories of hanging out and dancing with the late great James Brown when he came to town.

After leaving her family home, she moved to Virginia where she received her chefs license. Shortly thereafter, she moved to the great state of New York where she worked various jobs and catered parties.

While in New York, she married the late Curtis Lane who transitioned to be with the Lord during his early adult years.

New York wasn’t big enough for Gloria’s personality, so she packed her bags and moved to the windy city, Chicago, IL where she worked as a chef for several organizations including Columbus Park Nursing Home for over 20 years and Dominick’s Finer Food for over 15 years where she later retired. Soon after, she decided to return home to Murfreesboro, TN, her final resting place.

She is survived by four sisters, Betty Lou Cooper who led her to Christ, Ruby Lee Butler, Dorothy Foster and her baby girl Barbara Allen. Although Gloria Jean did not have children of her own, she leaves to cherish her memories, her spiritually adopted children, Wanda Frierson and Veronica Allen; her spiritual grandbaby T’yanna Coleman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
