Rodney Wyndham “Rip” Young, was born in Fairhope, AL on September 23, 1965.  He departed this life on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro, TN.  Rodney was 53 years old. 

He was born to the late Ret. Msg. Johnny Young and Freddie Mae Harris Young.  He was preceded in death by a brother Michael John Young.

Rodney’s love of sports began at a very young age.  He played peewee football, basketball and ran track.  He also showed his musical side while playing in the ensemble band at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky.  Rodney went on to play football and run track at Middle TN State University (MTSU), where he graduated in 1989.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Victoria M. Young of Murfreesboro, TN; daughters, Kayla McGowan, Dominique Young and Chyra Young, all of Murfreesboro, TN; grandson, Michael John Young II; mother, Freddie Mae H. Young of Daphne, AL; sisters, Denise Shaw and Jacqueline Young, both of Daphne, AL; father/mother-in-law, L.B. (Barbara) McGowan of Lynchburg, TN;  brothers-in-law, Larry (Connie) McGowan of Tullahoma, TN and Wayne (Angel) McGowan of Fairview, TN; sister-in-law, Brenda Wells of Lynchburg, TN; nieces, Stephanie McGowan of Tullahoma, TN, Brianna Shaw and Melissa Shaw, both of Daphne, AL, Alexis Fortson of Murfreesboro, TN, Kristian Eady of Lynchburg, TN and Savannah Eady of Tullahoma, TN; nephews, Geoffrey McGowan of Tullahoma, TN and Randall Shaw, II of Daphne, AL; and a host of  other relatives,  friends and co-workers.
