SGM Robert Nathaniel Beverley was born on August 16, 1947, in Middlesex County, Virginia to James Howard and Clarice Bell Beverley who both preceded him in death. He transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on January 3, 2023.

Robert (“Bub” as he was affectionately known to close family and friends) at an early age confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized, and joined Calvary Baptist Church in Saluda, Virginia.

Robert received his education in the Middlesex County Public School System and graduated from St. Clare Walker High School, Saluda, Virginia as a member of the Class of 1968.

After graduating from high school in June of 1968, Robert soon after enlisted in the United States Army and had a career that spanned over a period of twenty-eight years retiring with an Honorable Discharge in 1994.  Though he enlisted as a Private when that chapter of his life was completed, he had reached the pinnacle of Sergeant Major (E9) which is the highest rank for enlisted personnel.  Some of Robert’s military tour of duty locations included Panama, Korea, Germany, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, El Paso, Texas, Ft. Benning, Georgia, Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and his last tour of duty in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands.

Robert was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. He was a Black Hat Instructor with the United States Army Airborne School (Jump School) in Ft. Benning, GA.  The Airborne School conducts the Basic Airborne Course to troops from all branches of the United States Department of Defense as well as Reserve Officer Training Corps and allied military personnel.

Education is something that was very important to Robert, and he always encouraged his children as well as other young people to do their very best and to take full advantage of the opportunities they were given.  Those were not just words to him, and he lived by that example.  While stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia he was able to obtain the degree of Associate of Science in General Education from Troy State University in 1986.  While stationed at Middle Tennessee State University Robert continued his collegiate education.  Although his studies were interrupted by his military responsibilities, when he returned to Murfreesboro after retirement, Robert continued his college education and in 1998 received the degree of Bachelor of University Studies from Middle Tennessee State University.

Robert’s next career was with the Williamson County Board of Education where he taught JROTC, and was also the golf coach at Page High School in Franklin, Tennessee.  After fifteen years of service with Williamson County he retired for a second time.

Some of Robert’s favorite things were cooking on the grill, reading books and discussing politics, playing cards with his friends, spending time with family and most of all he was a better than average golfer.

Robert and Alveda Diane Wilson were married on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1994, and just celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, James Howard and Clarice Bell Beverley; his son, Lydell Curtis Beverley; his sisters, Francis Gregory and Joan Harmon; his brothers, Alvin Beverley, John Beverley and Keith Beverley; and nephew, Curtis Beverley.

Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife Alveda Beverley; children, Robert O’Brian (Tara) Beverley of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Breyana Danielle (Kevin) Bedford of Wherever They Park, United States, Brittany Desiree Beverley of Knoxville, Tennessee and Justin
