Paul Donnie Thompson was born Saturday, July 1, 1944 to Katie Esther (Ellis) and the late Paul Thompson, Sr. in Chattanooga TN.  On September 23, 2015 he departed this life after a short illness at his home in Detroit, MI; his beloved wife by his side. 

Donnie, as we lovingly called him, joined Brandon Chapel Church at an early age.  He went to Bedford County Training School, now known as Harris High School, where her meet his childhood sweetheart, Margaret L. Cannon.  They were married on March 2, 1964 and to this union four children were born, one girl and three boys.  Donnie and his wife also adopted another child, Carl Yancy Thompson who precedes him in death.  Donnie and his family moved to Detroit, MI in 1973.  He obtained a job with the Ford Motor Auto Company where he worked until he retired in 2007.  Donnie enjoyed family gatherings, listening to gospel and blues music, and playing pool- in which he often won.

He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Thompson, Sr. and his stepfather, William Ellis. 

Donnie leaves to mourn his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret Thompson from Detroit, MI; his mother Katie Esther Ellis, from Shelbyville, TN; one daughter, Donna Thompson of Shelbyville TN; three sons, Paul  (Stephanie) Thompson, Jr., Ronald (Tracey) Thompson and Morgan  Thompson all from Detroit, MI;  two sisters, Barbara Thompson and Vivian Ann Barclay both from Shelbyville, TN; two first cousins, Erma Lee Frazier and Gracie Thomison, both from Nashville , TN; three sisters-in-law,  Mary (Joe) Moore from Shelbyville, TN, Clara (Waymon) Lanier from Cleveland, OH and Shatoria (Larry) Altaman from Detroit, MI; three brothers-in-law,  Tommy L. Cannon, Henry Cannon and Michael Cannon all from Detroit, MI; six grandchildren,  Jaylon, Paulie, Mekhi, Kha’ron and two step-grandchildren, Jasmine and Ta’vis; two step great grandchildren; one aunt Jean Daniels of Shelbyville, TN; and  a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
