John Thomas Flack, Jr. was born on January 16, 1929, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, as the oldest son of the late John Thomas Flack, Sr. and Lueddith Smith Flack.  After a valiant battle with a long illness, God called his loyal servant home before sunrise, on November 1, 2015, to see a bright new day in Glory. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Hart and Jerry Flack and a great-grandson, Joshua Hughes.

Since a young child, he was fondly known as “Buck.”  He was baptized at the age of 12 by Rev. Willie D. Young, Sr. and Brother Rainey Phillips. He served as a faithful member of Mullin Chapel A.M.E. Church as a trustee until his death.  When the old church burned, he was instrumental in rebuilding the current church on Ledbetter Road.  He continued his service to others by donating his professional services to various community churches.

As a young man, he attended Mullin Chapel School.  He worked with his father cutting and hauling cedar.  He worked as a truck driver hauling logs for Saunders Lumber Company and retired after 32 years as an over-the-road long distance driver for Yellow Freight Systems. As a Yellow Freight driver, he received several “million miler” awards for safe driving. 

He was a member of the Charity Lodge No. 82, Tullahoma Consistory 185, Hella Temple Shriners 105, and Teamsters Union 480. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, travelling, gardening, and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On December 25, 1946, John united in holy matrimony with Gladys Lucille Young.  From this union, four children were born:  Fredia Flack Lusk, Shelbyville, Tennessee; Doris (Dr. Cleveland) Broome, Missouri City, Texas; John Thomas Flack III, Atlanta, Georgia; Charles Kenneth Flack, Marietta, Georgia.

Grandchildren:  Sean (Arika) Landry, Pearland, Texas;  Kimberly (Alshare) Hughes, Flower Mound, Texas; Mario Flack, Faith Flack, Atlanta, Georgia; Taylor Lusk, Chattanooga, Tennessee; Paige Lusk, Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Brian Broome, Houston, Texas.

Great-Grand Children:  Jazmin Broome, Kyla and Austin Hughes, Terry and Anaya Landry, and Kaleesi Lusk (Little Buddy).
