Jeffrey Conrad Chatman, “Big Nasty” was born September 23, 1963 to Melvin Chatman, Sr. and Velma Beard Chatman. He departed this earthly life Monday, July 18, 2016 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jacqueline McKinney; one brother, Melvin Chatman, Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Linnett Chatman.

Jeffrey accepted Christ at Beards Chapel Baptist Church in Springfield, TN at an early age. He was educated in the Robertson County school system and graduated from Springfield High School where he was the runner-up state championship in wrestling along with the MVP in baseball. Jeffrey went on to play football at TSU in what he called “the winning years,” one of which the team had an 11-0 record.  He always enjoyed sports, supporting the community and reaching the lives of youth.  He later married Lisa and with this marriage, they shared 28 years together.

Jeffrey worked with Metro Parks & Recreation for over 20 years. He was active with the youth at the community center; he was a licensed magician and he formed and lead a youth magic group; he worked with the boy scouts; he worked with Easter Seals Special Olympics; and he was a member of the 33rd Shriner and Mason. Jeffrey just loved the youth and interacting with people.

He leaves to cherish his memories loving wife, Lisa Chatman; two daughters, Jelisa Cierra Chatman and Belinda Yarbrough; two sons, Dequon Polk and Jordan Cortez Chatman; sisters, Carol (Robert) Merritt, Rachelle (Bobby) Brown, Tonya (Fred) Hammonds and Aisha Miller; brothers, Bobby Chatman and Karl (Sylvia) Chatman; sister-in-law, Dorthea Chatman; in-laws, Fred and Lena Hamilton; grandmother in-law, Juanita Hamilton; brother in-law, Darryl (Nicole) Hamilton; a host of nieces and nephews including a special bond with Carols’ son, Josh; and a host of other relatives and friends.
