Herschel Greene Woods, II, departed this earthly life on April 20, 2018, at his home, after a brave and valiant struggle with his health.  Herschel, affectionately known as “Boo,” was born on January 15, 1949, to Mattie Octavia Woods and Herschel Greene Woods, Sr., in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Herschel’s early years of education began at Bradley Elementary School.  He attended Holloway High School for two years where he played football for the Holloway Trojans.  In his junior year, he transferred to Oakwood Academy in Huntsville, Alabama graduating in 1967. He attended Middle Tennessee State University for approximately two years.  In addition, he completed the Rutherford County Hospital Medical Technology Program.  Herschel worked as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician at Riverside Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, Mid-Cumberland Medical Laboratories, and Research Solvent and Chemicals.

After several years of working in the laboratory career field, Herschel’s interest changed. His uncanny ability for retail sales placed him as one of the top automotive salespersons in the Middle Tennessee area receiving numerous awards, accolades, and recognitions.  He demonstrated this ability working for Warren Motor Company, Quality Motors, Neil Sadler Buick, and Alexander Ford.

In 1999, Herschel developed a liking for computer technology and completed a certification in computer repair and worked in that field until his health began to fail.

At an early age, Herschel attended Allen Chapel AME church and was later baptized into the Oaklands Park Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Herschel took great pride in his culinary skills and preparing his special dish, fried chicken.  There was nothing Herschel liked better than sharing a good story with family and friends, particularly his granddaughters, Kami and Kenya.  He could have an engaging conversation with anyone.

It goes without saying, Herschel, was well loved and cherished by those who knew him.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Woods; father, Herschel Greene Woods, Sr; stepfather, James H. Dunston, Sr; and brother in law, Jessie Robinson.

His precious memories will forever be treasured by his devoted son and daughter; Herschel Greene Woods, III, and Herneaschia Greene’ Woods both of Murfreesboro; and his loving grandchildren, Kami Karylayah Bruton, Kenya Olivia Woods, Alyssa L. Wilkerson, and Jadelyn Goff.  He is survived by his loving mother, Mattie Woods Dunston of Murfreesboro; one sister, Marilyn Woods-Robinson of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Frederick (Hope) Woods of Glenn Dale, MD and Collier L. Woods, of Murfreesboro; two aunts, Florence (Preston) Taylor of Nashville, and Barbara (Roy) Alexander of Murfreesboro;  devoted cousins, Sandra Brookes of Murfreesboro, Brenda (Gerald) Singleton, of Nashville; George (Annie) Woods, of Nashville, Deborah (Lee) Harris, of Columbia, MD, and Collier R. (Anjeli) Woods, Jr, of Tallahassee , FL; special friends, James Puckett, Jerry Newsome, Jackie Sanford, and Mary K. Newman, all of Murfreesboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom he dearly loved.
