Ernest went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 16, 2022.  He was born on January 13, 1961, in Shelbyville, TN.  Ernest is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lucille Holman, his father, Ernest “Sleepy” Cleveland, and his brother, Jeffrey Holman.

Ernest was a devoted man of God.  Each and every day of his earthly life he prayed and read the Word of God.  While living in Havelock, NC, he was a devoted member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.  He enjoyed singing in the choir, and his duties as usher.  When he moved back to Shelbyville, he became a member of Bright Temple COGIC.

Ernest had two great pleasures, fishing and playing bass guitar.  To say he was good at both is an understatement.  Very seldom did Ernest come back from fishing without a nice catch.  He would often clean his catch and take them to others who loved fish.

Ernest leaves behind a very loving family, one daughter, Wendy Denise Holman of Decherd, TN; one step-son, Al Wyatt Martin of Shelbyville, TN;  one brother, Randy (Cindy) Holman of Havelock, NC; two sisters, Cynthia and Stephanie Holman, both of Shelbyville; five half-brothers,  Eddie, James, and Calvin Cleveland, Mike Smith and Steph Smith;  four half-sisters, Carol and Twanda Murray, Freda Johnson and Tracy Nichols.  Ernest was blessed with five grandchildren, Alana Thomas, Khari Pentacost, Jacqual Holman, Letrona Thomison and Kye Tate.  These strong family bonds also include a host of cousins, one niece and four nephews.

The family grieves the loss of Ernest, but we rejoice and give thanks to our Heavenly Father knowing where he is and that we will reunite again.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Bright Temple COGIC, PO Box 453, Shelbyville, TN 37162, or to Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 1101, Newport, NC 28570.

“…well done good and faithful servant…”Matthew 25:23
