Mr. Charlie Lee Wade, affectionately known as the #1 Jig, was born in Murfreesboro, TN to the late John F. and Mamie Wade on June 6, 1936. After 84 years of servitude on earth, God gave him his wings on Friday, August 14, 2020.

Upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ, at age 14, he was baptized at the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  He faithfully served as a deacon for many years.  Charlie moved his membership to Stones River United Methodist Church where he also faithfully served as Administrative Chair, Trustee and choir member.  Charlie suffered a stroke in 1990 and was partially paralyzed on his left side, but that did not stop him from driving the red HHR or his gray pick-up truck with the souped-up muffler to church every Sunday morning, and was usually the first to arrive.  He sat in the fourth row of pews on the right side and walked in with bible and song book in hand.  At Wednesday night bible study, he was always there with his notebook taking notes and asking the pastor questions because he said he enjoyed learning new things in the Bible.  Charlie was called on regularly to pray.  He was a diligent intercessor.  He read his bible and studied God’s words every day. 

Shiloh and Holloway Schools, parts of the Rutherford County School System, is where Charlie received his education. 

The United States Air Force welcomed Charlie in 1957 and he served for six years as a Military Air Policeman.  After 30 years with United Service Equipment, he retired. His last specialty before retirement was Supervisor of the Fabricating Assembly.

Traveling with his family was a great joy to Charlie. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting family in Georgia, Florida and many family trips to the mountains in both Gatlinburg, TN and Helen, GA. 

Preceding Charlie in his transition are his lovely wife of 22 years, Evelyn Anderson Wade; sons, Wandell Ray Spivey, Tracey Lynn Spivey, Kenneth Lawrence Green and Oatis Green, Jr.

A strong legacy remains standing in Charlie’s honor, seven children, Wanda Faye Green, Kelvin (Michelle) Green, Ronald (Cynthia) Spivey, Howard (Kim) Spivey II (Sacramento, CA), Donald Avery Spivey (Antioch, TN), Timothy (Tracy) Spivey and Terrence (Karen) Spivey;         27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Addie Malone (Richmond, IN); brother, John Wade; sisters, Lorene (Charlie) Richardson, Charlene Swader, Wilma (JB) Miller, Dorothy Vaughter and Lillie Swader; and a host of other relatives and friends.
