Mr. Charles Harter, Jr’s Video
Charles William Harter, Jr., beloved husband, father, brother and uncle has passed after a life full of adventure and fun. He grew up the eldest of 5 and is survived by sister, Rebecca Smith and brother, Joeseph Harter and his aunt, Joanne Nathan.
He met his darling wife, Adella at their first dance at University of Georgia, within a few years she had proposed to him, and they graduated and married. They spent several years in the Peace Corps, then returned and moved to Tennessee to begin farming and teaching. Charles and Adella have two children, Heather Harter Johnson and Allyn Hendrix Harter.
Chuck taught Science at Walter Hill Elementary School and later transferred to Oakland High School where he taught Biology and Environmental Science. Chuck was very involved with the Murfreesboro Soccer Program and coached both at Riverdale and later Oakland High School. He started the Oakland High Girls Soccer team in 1985. He also ran the Nashville YMCA summer programs for several years. His hobbies included golfing, bicycling, dancing, music, hiking canoeing, and a great and lifelong interest in wildlife and nature.
Charles also leaves behind three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Harter is preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Eileen Hendrix, Charles William Harter and stepdad, Paul Mills; two sisters, Charlene Harter and Mary Ellen Childree.
Charles passed peacefully in his sleep, next to his wife.
