Michelle Lynn Robins, affectionately called “Candy” departed this life peacefully on October 11, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Candy was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend, whose vibrant spirit and infectious laughter touched the lives of all who knew her.
Born on September 4, 1972, Candy was the cherished daughter of Sharon and Morgan Watkins. Candy grew up in a loving home filled with joy and warmth. From a youthful age, she exhibited a zest for life that would become her trademark. At the age of 12, she confessed her life to Christ at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Apparel and Textile Marketing Management from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Michelle went on to develop Robins Management Production where she wrote and produced community plays. She was also an instructor at the Fashion Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. Her professional journey was marked by dedication and a genuine passion for helping others, which she demonstrated through her work at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2009, Michelle joined Vanderbilt University Hospital as a Standardized Patient in the Center for Experimental Learning and in 2017, she joined Patient Access Services. Candy worked as Access Specialist and a Program Manager before transferring to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital and served in the same capacity as a Program Manager in the Pediatric Outpatient Clinics for the Offsite and After-Hours Clinics. During this time, she completed training and became a Certified Call Center Manager.
Candy served, from the beginning, as a member of the executive leadership team for the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s African American Employee Resource Group assisting in the facilitation of workshops and presentations for the Vanderbilt employee community. She presented on how to become your own health advocate. Her work in healthcare was a testament to her dedication and compassion for others.
Candy's nickname was a proof to her sweet and generous nature. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special and loved, always remembering the little things that made a big difference. Candy was a lover of nature and often spent her weekends hiking, gardening, or simply enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. She had a special affinity for animals and was a devoted pet parent to her beloved Cowboy Cuddy, who brought her endless joy and companionship.
Candy adored her family. She is survived by her cherished son, Alexander Spotswood Robins IV; sister, Christina Watkins; parents, Sharon and Morgan Watkins; devoted cousins, Delanor Washington and Troy Gregory, who will forever hold her in their hearts; aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly and will forever cherish her memory.
Candy's light may have dimmed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and joy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Michelle’s warmth, creativity, and steadfast love for her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rest in peace, dear Candy. You will be forever missed and never forgotten.
