Betty Frances Baxter Smith was born May 15, 1928 in Nashville, TN to Riley Baxter, Sr. and Effie Mitchell Baxter. She transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on September 22, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley Sr. and Effie Mithcell Baxter; husband, Joe Smith; sisters, Mrs. Loretta Green, Mrs. Claudia Martin, Mrs. Lucille Allen, Mrs. Jennie Craig and Aleyene Garner; sons, Joseph McDonald and Billy McDonald; brothers, Mr. Bruce Baxter, Mr. Luther Baxter and Riley Baxter, Jr; niece, Vevlon McMurray; nephew, Lawrence Choate.

Betty became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist at an early age, under the leadership of JW Pitts. She received her education in the public schools of Davidson County. She worked in the dry-cleaning industry as well as the childcare industry. A hobby she enjoyed was knitting. She loved being a wife and homemaker.

She leaves to treasure her memories son, Michael McDonald; devoted nieces, Alesia Wilson, Rebecca Martin, Joan Bass, Effie Hargroves, JoAnn Millon, Angela Baxter, Karen Woodruff and Jessica Brooks; nephews, Alonza Martin, Riley Baxter, III and Thomas Wilson; and a host of other family members.
